Our second meeting took place in Palermo, Italy from 3rd to 7th of March. All the activities on the agenda were planned and organized by our Italian partner - Association Progresso per L’Europa. The other project partners: Menderes Adult Education Centre from Turkey (3 participants), The Culture Centre of Konstantynów Łódzki from Poland (8 participants) and Valmiera Culture Centre from Latvia (3 participants) took part in the wide range of events prepared for the purpose of the meeting.
The hosts took great care to familiarize us with Palermo’s history and the landmarks of the city. All-pervasive influences of various cultures and nations constitute the city’s most distinctive feature- its diversity.
Following the project coordinators meeting, we listened to a presentation by a local foundation dealing with the issue of racism and immigration. We all paid a visit to a small town of Prizzi near Palermo to participate in the preparations for the Spring Festival on the occasion of the oncoming equinox. The partners visited the Ethno-anthropological Museum, learnt about the history of the Festival, its programme as well as other March equinox traditions. There was also a meeting held with the mayor of the town.
Apart from the above, we were acquainted with some of the region’s music traditions. Each project partner gave a presentation on its country’s unique melodies.
During the meetings we drew up an agenda for our consecutive undertakings, their evaluation and the division of assignments for each partner within the project. The trip to Palermo was the first event to have been attended by all the partners. It was the first time we had met the coordinators form Latvia. We were very pleased to be joined in by the originator of the project.
We wish to thank our host for arranging the visit and organizing our stay in Palermo. And for the omnipresent scent of delicious Italian coffee! :)
